I discovered mouse droppings in the chest of drawers outside the airing cupboard where I keep the spare bedding. Further investigation showed the little blighters had nibbled beach towels in a basket at the bottom of the airing cupboard. I’ve put bait down for 2 days and all gone. Yesterday I put a mouse trap down too. Last night I peeped in to see a mouse run across the back of the cupboard and the trap has been activated. Couldn’t tell if it has caught anything. Why did this have to happen now? Trying to hide it from my daughter in law! Think she’ll not be happy with the situation. Amazon delivering more bait today and some of those plug in devices that are supposed to keep mice away. Do they work? How long till the bait does the trick?
I had mice in my last flat (found an empty box of cereals with a hole nibbled in the bottom). I put a mousetrap down one night and woke up to find it had been activated, but there was no sign of the mouse. But after that it never came back. I like to think it was because it realised I wasn't to be messed with, but in truth it probably just found somewhere better to steal from now that it had finished off my Weetabix, so I guess the message is keep all foodstuffs locked away or in high cupboards so that the mice have nothing to come for. Otherwise, it sounds like you are doing all the right things. Awful to have to worry about something like that on top of Christmas.
Hehe - sorry to laugh, but tickled that you'd put this in the 'Pets@ section! You sure you really want to get rid of them? They used to try and live in my old campervan over winter - had to strip out all the cushions to try and deter them. If they have taken the bait, they will then leave the house to try and find water as I believe that's what the bait does before it kills them. Hopefully they won't return - maybe time to get a cat?
Oh dear thats bloody typical isn't it, just when you have guests coming. Thought it was just me who had that sort of luck. You could pretend your gerbil has escaped if your DIL sees one
I had one of those plug in things at the last house. The reviews were very good for it. I didn't hear our own uninvited guests a few days after plugging it in, Put it in the attic bedroom as I heard them between the floorboards of the attic and 1st floor bedrooms.
Good luck

I’m still topping up the mouse bait. How long can I keep it quiet with the rest of the family arriving tonight?!!!! And how big is the mouse family? They’ve had loads of bait.

How long is everyone staying LLCC? because if they've had loads of bait and they have returned to the nest somewhere in your house, they are going to die and the smell will start to fill the house, not saying this to stress you but if anything starts to smell you'll need to find them bodies fast and get rid.
Did you get an electronic device?
I'm like Jax, rodents are my worst nightmare, I have a real phobia about rats

I have had no problems with rodents in my apartment: I must be cleaning often enough. BUT you're not to blame for having mice: I would certainly take these ladies advice.
Yeh. as soon as it gets colder those furry critters look for a nice warm home, ever the opportunists! They try to be near a food source. That food source may not be in your house at all but near an outside one, like a neighbors garden who has rabbits. A neighbor of ours a few years ago had rabbits and of course that encouraged rodents because rabbit food tends to end up under and around their hutches.
I love birds, but I won't put feeders in my garden because the rodents will come and if they end up in my garden, they'll no doubt start camping in my shed or my house because they're looking for a warm base not far from food.
I hope they are not a problem while your family are there LLCC, I understand how horrible it makes you feel.

We live in the country as most of you know and I'm afraid I am used to seeing mice scuttling outside and even the odd rat on the rare occasion. We were tidying up the outside seating area and a mouse scurried out of one of the scatter cushions having eaten a hole in the fabric and made a lovely bed inside. The cold spell came and a day or so later I found a little mouse curled up and stiff on the ground. I did wonder if it was the one from the cushion. I felt quite mean.
They’ve stopped eating the poison. Phew! I think it’s over for now. Yes we live in a village, field at the back of us and it’s an old house so plenty of holes for mice to squeeze through with dark corners and wood wormed floorboards. Perfect for a mouse!
