One minute it was summer, then I turned my back for a week and found Autumn has arrived. However, it is so warm so it feels odd. Leaves falling a plenty although they have been for a few weeks. Condensation on our bedroom winter fills me with dread. How is it with you all?
Really mild, well muggy tbh here but not sunny, the air just feels thick. Put away a lot of the garden stuff which we probably won't use again this year and have got rid of some bedding plants which were on their last legs. We're off to Cornwall next week so trying to work out what to pack, don't think I'll need too many warm items of clothing but it's likely to be chillier morning and evening I reckon.
Here in France, probably the hottest, driest summer for many years. For a week or so (here, in Aisne), thunderstorms, and some rain (at last !). Temperatures may vary from 12°C in the morning to 29° in the afternoon and I live in the north of France). My relatives' horse and donkey are already feeding on bales of hay (is it the right word?) brought to them, as there's no longer grass enough in their meadow .
Hope you have a great trip to Cornwall Jax. Have you got the week planned out or are you just going to arrive and chill?
Shaliby that is a big temperature range from 12 to 29! Do you layer your clothes then peel off as the day goes on as temperature rises? Perfectly correct to say the horses are feeding on bales of hay. I hope you get more rain. Areas of England have had drought conditions with people being restricted on the amount of water they can use. Up here in the North West it has been very dry but we have had no restrictions thankfully.
Have you got the week planned out or are you just going to arrive and chill?
Bit of both, hoping to go to the Lost Gardens of Heligan & cycle a bit of the Camel Trail (I've packed my padded shorts!) but a fair bit of chilling and watching the sea (plus eating/drinking loads!)
What's your favourite thing about Autumn? I love pumpkin loaf (my OH makes a delicious one), I don't mind the cooler weather after the hot Summer we had this year, I've noticed on my dog walks how there's a different smell in the air (a pleasant one!). I've not seen one 'Daddy Long Legs' (Crane Fly) yet .... which is unusual for early September, usually they are hanging around outside trying to get in.
Treated myself to a new Autumnal scented candle ('Oakmoss') which I'm looking forward to lighting.
The Autumn decorations have had to be carefully placed this year as the dog thinks every artificial pumpkin has been put there for him to play with
Cooked dinner tonight in the slow-cooker - first time for ages, perfect for when the evenings are starting to draw in - an easy dish, balsamic chicken, absolutely delicious!
Yes, I love Autumn too Jax, the misty mornings, still mild and warm sunshine, I had company yesterday and it was so pleasant to sit in the garden, chatting and drinking tea and coffee.
I’m admiring my log stack, and more log cutting activities are on YS’s agenda, a slow cooker balsamic chicken is making me envious too, hygge thoughts are returning, even though, just lately, I have been sitting in the garden in the dark watching the moon rise.
I am in love with the thought of Autumn arriving. It has rained here on and off for three days now and it sounds wonderful. I never thought I would say that either!
Did you get to the Lost Gardens of Heligan Jax ? The cycling sounds too strenuous for me for hols.
We have a beautiful display of logs stacked Jazzy. Trouble is, I never want to use them to spoil the tidy view. Replacing watering of garden with stacking and filling log baskets. Love the smell of the wood.
We have had a couple of really cold days. I had my fire on one night. Today is lovely and sunny, but definitely chilly out of the sun. A couple of my neighbours have lovely autumnal wreaths on their doors, they are lovely. I like it when the nights start drawing in and the lights are on. Plus a couple of candles.

Loved my visit to Heligan. Would love to visit at different times of the year to see it through the different seasons. I’m not a great autumn lover although the colours on the trees can excite me. I think it’s because winter is around the next bend and I don’t like the cold. We had logs delivered this week and had our first fire on Friday night - that was nice!
Our log burner is now lit every evening and it is surprising the difference it makes to the whole house. Living in an old cottage with little windows, the walls are cold, so merely having it on for a few hours makes it so much cosier.
Great for drying clothes too, because I don't know about where you all live ladies, but it is still raining here ! Everyday for well over a week now.
