I had a pasta meal. I fried up sweet peppers, mushrooms and garlic in olive oil while I boiled some spaghetti. Then I added prawns, coriander pesto and a spoonful of crème fraiche to the mushroom mix and when the spaghetti was ready I mixed it all together. I sort of made this up because I was in the mood for pasta and prawns and I love coriander pesto and I happened to have some crème fraiche in the fridge.
A favourite, today : "Galettes" buckwheat pancake (stuffed with smoked salmon, thin sliced potatoes, onion, chives and sour cream) "Buckwheat pancakes" are a traditionnal dish from Brittany . It used to be the daily food of rather poor people, and had become a "hit", not only in Britanny but all over France, where you will find "crêperies" almost everywhere.
We don't do lunch, we usually shower around 7.30 - 8.00 am, and enjoy a couple of coffees from our bean to cup Gaggia Brera machine in our dressing gowns. We treated ourselves to this coffee machine and it has become a habit now, we have a slow relaxing start to the day.
During this time we set out our to do list for the day, get dressed, and set to the tasks.
We break around 11.30 ish, and then we will have something like a vegetable frittata
which is eggs in a tomato sauce, with veg, baked in the oven. This dish is often spiced up with chillies, but I am allergic to chilli , also, I am not sure my tummy would cope with chilli spices at this time of day, it is not something I enjoy.
We will have this with juice from whatever fruits we have which are juicable.
Our go to quick brunch is authentic greek yoghurt, honey and a fruit compote made from whatever fruits we have, and nuts, usually walnuts and almonds. Some years ago we rented a villa on the harbour in Mykonos from the beginning of January to the beginning of April, to get away from the British winter. We would breakfast often at a small family owned taverna on the harbour, and this really changed our breakfast experience. Spinach and feta pie, the fluffiest of scrambled eggs and greek yoghurt like we had never tasted. Marks and Spencer and Waitrose do good authentic greek yoghurt, there is also an online Greek store called Greek Market UK who supply Olympus Greek Yoghurt.
Thanks for your links ! I also love "frittata", "baked eggs" and Greek yougurth with honey, almonds and pistachio - it can be my dinner ! In the summer, I also love feta cheese, with tomatoes, olives, some oregano and olive oil, or anchovies in brine. Not a typical French menu !
Jazzy, thanks for teaching me 2 words, today : "Banana shallot" here - "échalion", though I don't see the difference with "shallot" - and "rapeseed" in your "Olive oil" file !
