It was his fault in that he literally just dashed out onto the road. Initially, I didn't think he had been hit, as I didn't see the incident, nor did I hear any screeching of brakes or a thump
I saw the vehicle drive away as I came around the corner of the drive and all seemed well, untill a little later in the garden when he would hardly move.
A visit to the vet confirmed that he had hurt his back, so stayed at the vets for the rest of the day just for observation.
He has been back this morning for a check and everything seems fine. He was a little subdued all over the weekend, which is to be understandable, but thankfully being such a large dog in size, I think that helped.
His sister was beside herself when he went last week, as they are never apart, but gosh it is a worry, as they are your family.
The man glowered at me as he drove off, and I assumed it was his way of saying 'stupid woman for not controlling her dog!' but I was unaware of the altercation until later.
He was very sorry for himself all weekend, but the usual Metacam - appears to be given for everything, has helped.
We had our daughters new puppy to stay for the night on Saturday and thankfully our male was very quiet with him, as it is a minute fluffy chihuahua that looks like a little fox.
I will add a picture of him for you all to see. I was not a fan of this breed, but he is very cute, so interesting to see how he grows.
Aw poor houndy - and poor you! It's awful when they are in pain and you feel helpless. I am so cross at that man just driving off, and not even having the decency to stop and check either of you were ok. Hope he recovers fully soon. Bet he will get spoilt rotten in the meantime.
Thank goodness your boy is feeling better. Is Metacam an anti inflammatory? I always thought that you had to stop if you had hit a dog? The driver should have stopped and checked. He obviously doesn't have any pets. I hope you are ok. (hugs)

Thanks ladies, he is on the mend and enjoyed a quick walk today. The man checked his van VW clearly not an animal lover. They are Trisha, I have discovered, but I wasn't aware of the situation fully at the time.
Metacam is an anti-inflammatory, both of the dogs are on it at the minute as the female retriever has a wonky back leg.
Today I had to take my daughters new puppy for its second inoculation. Oh my goodness did it squeal. I felt horrendous and nearly burst into tears in front of the vet, I felt so bad for the little creature
It has to have a third one in 4 weeks time, and I have already said that I am not taking him. I don't want him to think that I am the baddy
