Do you still have a landline? Does it ever ring? I am now thinking that we can remove all the extension boxes around our house that we added over the years, as they no longer work. Anyone else thinking the same? I am actually very confused about phone lines now, copper cables, fibre cables, which have we got? Fast broadband, super fast broadband, no broadband! What are you all doing? Are you saving money changing to alternatives?
We do have a landline, which gets very little use. We recently spoke to our phone/broadband/tv provider (Virgin) to re-negotiate our monthly fee and asked how much the price would go down if the landline was removed .... unbelievably they said the price would go UP if we gave up the landline!

They are changing this. I heard on an advert on the radio that they were swapping the landline for a mobile service. I don't know the full details but it made me wonder.
I’m with Virgin as well and I pay for a landline which is unusable. Like you jax I was told it would cost more if I didn’t keep the whole package but they’ve changed their system so it doesn’t work. My downstairs cordless phone broke and I never bothered with a new one but I still have a phone fixed to the wall next to my bed which flashes but if I pick it up there’s no ringtone. I can’t have it removed without having to redecorate but although my bedroom could really do with a makeover I just can’t face the upheaval. Maybe one day I’ll get around to it but it just adds to the number of things that are still there but serve no function any more. Like the 8 ceiling lights in my lounge that are disconnected but if I had them taken out I’d have to have a new ceiling or the thermostat on the wall that is also defunct. Sometimes it all gets a bit much.

I need a new carpet. But it is difficult because the furniture will need to removed from the room: and where do I put the sofa when the carpet fitters are here? Still, it IS a problem that should - and could - be solved.
As for the carpet colour: I'll be going for a deep purple. I LOVE purple and shall really push my dad. The beige carpet has been here for years: and needs replacing.
I still have a land line, most people use my mobile. Except my elderly neighbour, she is getting more anxious about things. I seem to be her security blanket.

I'm a security blanket for someone too: my best friend.
She often has terrible times. Life is very unfair for her: yet there isn't anything I can do. I can only listen to emotionally support her. But I have a lot of sympathy for her.
I speak to her on the telephone every evening: it makes her more cheerful and that's all that matters.
You're a star for keeping up with your elderly neighbour, Trisha.
I ditched my landline ages ago, mate. It was just gathering dust and spam calls. Nowadays, it's all about that sweet broadband connection. I switched to fiber a while back, and it's been smooth sailing since. Saved me some cash too, not having to deal with line rental and all that jazz.
