Reading Shaliby's post yesterday about Jean Paul Belmondo and my mind drifted off to my youth when I thought he was in a series I used to watch during the summer holidays.
In the 1960's, during the summer holidays the BBC put on television programmes for children that were French. Belle and Sebastien and The White Horses were two of them, but there was a third about swash buckling French cavaliers and the love of a beautiful blonde damsel.
Can anyone remember this programme being broadcast ??
SD, must be so much older than you, as quite grown up when "Belle & Sebastien " was broadcast on French Tv (1965). But liked it ! Do you know that a lot of French boys born in the late 60s were named Sébastien, after the film ? Found on Google Search "The White Horses", but a German production.
The "swahbuckler" film with Jean-Paul Belmondo could be "Cartouche", a film that might have been adapted for TV?
They bring back memories Sunnydays - as a kid I used to have my hair in 'Julia Style' - a character in The White Horses. As I type this, I am humming the theme tune - which I didn't even realise I remembered until reading your post.
Also loved Belle & Sebastien .... didn't seem to notice either of these programmes were dubbed at the time.

It was called The Flashing Blade - Le Chevalier Tempête
A one off series, made in 1967 later than I thought and in colour too I discovered..... How your memory plays tricks on you.
