I've been dozens of times over the years with my dad: it is wonderful there. I have such special memories of Ireland. It is part of my soul. It'd be even better if I could travel there on a private airplane. This is because airports aren't my ideal place. They are unfortunately a necessary evil.
Anyhow, if you ever get the chance, go to Ireland!
Ireland has incredible culture: and I don't mean just Dublin. The outskirts of Ireland hold the most magic. I can always imagine the Irish of the past with all their celebrations and traditions going on. It boggles the mind.
My dad is Irish, so not surprisingly I've been a fair few times. He showed me where he used to go to the cinema to watch cowboy films. He also loved reading cowboy books.
My brother in law was born in Belfast. He would to back tomorrow if he was given the chance. I took hubs to Ireland for his 65th birthday, we went to Dublin and had a really good time. I would love to to back.
The great thing about Ireland is that you can be in Belfast in just an hour from Stanstead and the flight is cheap as chips, you could take that trip with your BIL Trisha
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
I’ve been to Dublin twice and loved it both times. We also then flew to Cork and visited Kinsale - which was wonderful. Drove further west but can’t remember where we stayed. The roads were incredible - so slow and bumpy - took us ages to get anywhere.
Its my second home lol. I love it - all of it - north and south. Started going over to watch the motorbike road racing - there are meets on regularly in the north. Took a few weeks and drove the coast on another trip, and on my 50th did another road trip taking in the North West 200 race, and staying in the Titanic hotel. Their coastline is stunning and mostly unspoilt. Not built up with hundreds of caravan parks like we have in Wales. Driving round the west of Ireland takes you back to the turn of the century. No rushing. quaint little pubs with live music being played by locals and great food. Can't wait to go in the camper...
Taking your camper VW, sounds perfect to me, I couldn’t think of a nicer place, you can keep all the exotic destinations in my opinion and just take that slower pace 🙂
I’ve been a few times too, wish I had gone more often, my OH used to go with a bunch of friends, hire a big boat for a fishing trip on the lochs, it’s also a great place for golfers, excellent golf courses, and of course, great hospitality and Guiness a plenty.
