When I say glasses, I mean reading, sunglasses, distance glasses. I got a pair of sunglasses with my distance prescription which frankly have been fantastic. I hadn’t realised how poor my vision had got and these crisp everything up and make driving easier. I had some sort of coating put on them, anti scratch, I think or might have been anti-glare. I noticed recently that this coating is breaking down and looking kind of crazed so I took them to Boots opticians at the Trafford Centre. The guy I spoke to asked if I’ve used Fairy liquid on them as this will break down the coating. He was unable to access my account so I went to the branch where I had bought them. Again I was asked if I’d cleaned them with Fairy. How odd, I thought. Why do they not warn you when you purchase them? Anyway my glasses are out of the guarantee so I’ve had to buy another pair. Do any of you have glasses with a coating and had it happened to you?
That's interesting because some years ago my OH got a new pair of glasses from a local optician, I asked him the best way to keep them clean and he said to run them under the tap with a bit of washing up liquid .... thinking about it, he would suggest that wouldn't he - means a replacement pair will need to be ordered before too long
I generally use whatever’s to hand to wipe my glasses even though I know some things are probably scratchy. If I can get those packs of glasses cleaner tissues from Aldi I’ll use those but I wouldn’t say I’ve never used washing up liquid. Anyway I’m picking up my new glasses this week and they have that anti blue iPad light on them so now I know. No washing up liquid. Thanks.
