One of my first topics when joining this forum was "sweet poison", a long time ago, and I banged my drum over this many times since my original thread. I posted about it originally because of my own health issue after adding this in granulated form to tea, coffee etc. When I stopped using it, my problem went. Since then I have spoken to many people who found this artificial sweetener to cause them medical conditions. There have been many books on the subject and plenty of warnings over the years about it, so why has it taken so long for The World Health Organisation to come out and say it's unsafe? Apart from cancer and tumours it has been scientifically proven in lab tests to cause so many problems. In lab tests in USA it was said to cause tumours and neurological problems in rats and mice, this was years ago over 20 I think. I had a tumour and severe migraine issues and memory loss. The tumour was benign thankfully and successfully removed and I've never had any more issues since removing it from all forms in my diet.
Aspartame has been linked to behavioral and cognitive problems including learning problems, headache, seizure, migraines, irritable moods, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, wrote the researchers of a 2017 study in Nutritional Neuroscience.
When Jamie Oliver? spoke of the sugar problem in childrens diets way back, and we then had the sugar tax - I watched in horror as manufacturers of squash at the lower price point then sweetened with Aspartame, along with diet drinks, diet foods, sauces, deserts etc etc - not only diet drinks and chewing gum which WHO are advising about. Squash is one of the go to drinks for parents of young children and if on a tight budget which many families are, they won't be buying Rocks or Bottle Green.
This has been going on for years in this country, even though it was well documented in USA as being unsafe. The clues were there when the natural sweetener Stevia was then used as an alternative and I knew why, but still aspartame was being used in cheaper products.
Meanwhile, parents have been giving this to their children and themselves all this time and probably wondering if it has played a part in the physical and behavioural health of their children.
