Had to share this recipe that I made at the weekend. I love apple crumble and always have apples available as I freeze loads in the autumn that come from our trees. I am, therefore, always looking for recipes that use apple which are a bit different. So here is a recipe that I found and copied to some degree. I didn’t add dates. I used half eating apples putting them around the side and my stewed apple in the middle with more slices of eating apple. I also chopped up the pistachios before I added them to the crumble mix. I wanted to serve it cold so cooked it before our friends arrived and was very happy when it kept its shape after removing the tin. It was very tasty and just that bit different! Get cooking everybody!
That looks totally scrumptious CC, I like the addition of the orange juice and peel, and the nuts. I am definitely going to give that a go, the recipe looks easy and the ingredients are ones that are cheap and probably already sat on yer shelves.
Nor sure if I would put the dates in either. The best way to eat dates I think, is, using the large dates, stuff with a mild goats cheese, wrap them in streaky bacon, secure with a cocktail stick and put them in the oven on a foil covered baking tray until the bacon goes crispy. Whilst they are still warm, brush them with a bit of honey. Perfect canape, gone in seconds
