I know everything is going up in price by 20p here 30p there, but I had a real shock yesterday at the supermarket. I always buy pear juice to drink and over the years it has gone up from £1.75 to £2.25 a bottle, then just before Christmas I noticed it was £2.45.
I went shopping yesterday to pick up a few bits from Sainsburys and pear juice had gone to £3.75 a bottle !!! £3.75? I have been having a fit at butter being £2.50 a pack. It dawned on me that if I bought 4 packs of butter (not that I do ) and 2 bottles of pear juice, it would cost £17.00 !!!!
Food is visibly fluctuating on a weekly basis at the moment. Anyone else noticing a huge difference ?
Yes Sunny, definitely an alarming price rise in my supermarket spend, let’s hope that it will settle, or if not I will be paying over £2 for my favourite bread, I also like butter and wait, sometimes in vain, for a special offer, or when I get my Tesco club card vouchers I treat myself to butter, I’m always on the lookout for special offers and when one comes along I stock up, my car boot is currently my offers larder 😀
Actually there is an accounting error in my products. They should cost £17.50 not £17.00. The things you think about when your pushing a baby stroller through the lanes
Oh what else have you got tucked away in your boot Jazzy
Always keep a pack of toilet paper in my boot Sunny, you never know, could be handy in an emergency 🆘 perhaps I should look into having a portaloo in there too 😳
I've noticed it too and Morrisons seems to be the worst at the mo, every week prices have gone up, I only notice because I do all mums shopping on line and as SD said, it's not just a couple of pennies at a time it's like 30p 50p etc
I shop at 3 different stores as they are all really close together, mostly Lidl but i've noticed it there too now. Cat biscuits at Tesco were 3.50 one week, next week they were £4.00. These supermarkets could still make a decent profit without these big hikes, but they have to keep their shareholders happy.
I used to buy butter too Jazzy, but not anymore. I've tried really hard to keep to a tight budget but finding it harder and harder to do.
The best value toilet paper is from Lidl, 6 pack for £1.99 and they are big rolls tightly packed and last for ages.
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.

I can't help but envisage you performing on the portaloo in open air Jazzy with the boot lid open This thread started about the price of food
I love Cushelle toilet paper from Lidl and not the thick quilted stuff either.
I am always looking at the last chance buys in Lidl, but never really think I am cost cutting as you do end up buying bits not needed.
Portaloos and toilet paper eh?....we'll be talking about age concern knickers next
I like butter I must admit, but don't really like the alternatives, usually blended with oil and buttermilk, but the Lidl version is very nice, rapeseed oil is used and Cornish sea salt, ( or it may be Devon sea salt) and it is very pleasant to eat with a scone on it's own, which most of the others aren't I find.
Prices do seem to be increasing each time we do a 'big' shop, that combined with the reduction in size of many products, with no reduction in price, must be a total nightmare for families. Factor in energy costs, increasing mortgage rates, petrol, goodness knows what else. I just hope they are managing to get any help they may be entitled to, thank goodness for food banks.
At least age concern have got a sale of knickers on here today, the bottom must have fallen out of that market

you're a quick witter Cj
I tried that butter, salted variety from Lidl, but just a tad too salty for me. However my favourite has gone by 50p this week. The fruit and veg shelves were depleted. There is a problem due to weather ?
Call me a cynic, but I have a feeling these prices will never go back to what they were before the 'Cost of Living Crisis'. I buy bottles of lime squash which used to cost £1 a bottle (Tesco own brand) - it's now £1.95!!! How can that be justified?

I agree Jax, these price hikes will not reverse, but I said on here before we left the EU, we were spoilt rotten and didn’t even have to think about imported goods, now imported salads, foods etc from the EU are not readily available sometimes to us because we are no longer in the club, yes I know at the moment weather conditions are to blame, but I feel this is how things will be in the future.
Hi, friends ! Maybe you'll find some comfort reading that for us, in the EU, we're facing the same crisis ? There's an "anti-inflation" plan, many chains (Lidl is one of them) offering a low-cost, "no-profit" list of standard goods (food, care products)

Are you experiencing a shortage Shaliby? Over here it’s tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers that are restricted, the problem is that as soon as the press mentions shortages, the British public go into crazy panic buying mode, which makes the matter worse 😬
