I have dusted mine down and used it for the first time on Friday as a test, so long since I cooked with it. Boring beef stew, which I don't enjoy but it will definitely be used more frequently this winter.
Today I did a throw together chicken dish in mine - some chicken strips, tomato puree, tinned tomatoes, chick peas, onions & a pack of chicken casserole mix thrown in for good measure. Turned out to be easy and tasty and made 5 portions so some in the freezer for another day.
No matter how hard I tried I could never get on with my slow cooker. The only thing I ever cooked in it that worked was whole chicken but it ended up falling apart. You got great gravy though. Everything lose I ended up tipping out and cooking in a pan. I do suspect it somehow wasn’t working properly although I did have 2. Both were given to me.
I now have a multicooker that has a slow cooker option. If I’m making something in it that you would cook in a slow cooker (chilli, casserole etc) I pressure cook it first for about 20 minutes and then change it to slow cook for a few hours. This seems to work best for me.
Like that recipe Jax, sounds quick and easy so will use that one. We do live off chicken I'm afraid.
My roast chickens constantly fall apart Magggzzz, but we seem to like it that way. I actually turn the bird upside down halfway through to keep the breast moist. I have never heard of a multi cooker. Is it a free standing counter top appliance ? What do you pressure cooker these days? My mum had the old fashioned type that I remember used to whistle.
I have never been one for using season sachets Jazzy, but I think they might liven up some of my dishes as I don't really dabble in herbs and spices either. Quite a simple cook, the men folk like it so it's easy.
I love to prepare the following dishes in my slow cooker:
Beef Stew
Chicken and Rice
Pork Tenderloin with Apples and Onions
Vegetable and Bean Chili
Turkey Breast with Gravy
You should definitely try pan roasted swordfish recipe also low in calories and healthy as meals prepared in slow cooker:
1. Season swordfish steaks with salt, pepper, and lemon juice. 2. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. 3. Add the swordfish steaks to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes on each side or until browned and cooked through. 4. Serve with a lemon wedge on the side. Enjoy!
To answer Sunnydays..yes it is a freestanding plug in appliance. I use it all the time. Today I made steak and kidney in it. I make soup in it every week (in winter anyway). I’d really recommend it. You can set it and then just walk away and leave it.
I do beef stew, mince, carrots and onions (for cottage pie) chilli. I like the knife stock pots and will throw in a package mix of I have one. You can always top with herby dumplings or cheese scones.
