We have a Water Hen or Moor Hen who has decided to make it's home on our pond He/She is nesting in the hedge next to the pond and I have often seen it fly from the top of the hedge and skim the water to swim and feast away on grasses and flies.
It often sits on the water feature pecking away at the algae. Trying desperately to snap a photo of him. I think it's a him as aren't all male birds the more attractive of the two ? He's very quick at disappearing if he hears you and I have even gone to such lengths as to sleuth or slide my body quietly through the grasses to catch a snap.....no chance !
That's great to hear - wildlife moving in means you've done a great job with the pond! I have a good wildlife camera and it's fascinating to see who turns up during the day/night.
