I’ve just had a smart meter fitted. Our meters were so old and we weren’t sure they were still accurate so it seemed like a good choice.
it’s only been here a few hours and it’s already giving me a nervous breakdown. In the last 3 hours we’ve spent 90p on electricity. Apparently the gas won’t be on it for 24 hours.
My dad loves his but he hardly uses anything. He tells me every day how little he’s used the previous day.
No, I don't have one - I honestly think it would make me obsessed and worried about how much energy I'm using - plus someone who works in the tech industry told me they wouldn't get one because it would be a great way of people hacking into it and seeing whether you are away on holiday (ie your consumption would plummet).
I have got one Magggzzz and in truth I have given up all hope of ever seeing the green budget colour, saying we are being careful !
We were obsessed the first week switching everything off to try and achieve this colour. We rarely do even in the middle of the night when we are all in bed !!!
We need a new fridge/freezer I know that that will help, but really don't want to go down the expense of that. We don't switch the wifi off or Alexa as it is a faff to re-boot everything in the morning.
Think we will be going back to candles and coal fires the way we're going on.
I’m glad it’s not just me. I can definitely see us all getting obsessed. Yesterday was an ordinary day. We used the oven for a short while and I think there was one load of washing done. The microwave was used a few times. There was one computer on all day and others used at times.
I looked at about half 11 at night and we’d used £7 of fuel. £1.50 was gas. That seems like a lot in a day when there was no heating or fires on and I didn’t do any cooking. What’s it going to be like in the middle of winter.
This is definitely a wake up call, I was guilty of leaving lights on, doing way too much washing, I’m cutting back as much as I can and I will benefit and so will our planet.
