I remember this as a child with my mum and grandmother doing all sorts such as taking a rug out into the garden and beating it with one of those old fashioned contraptions they used to use. I’m pretty sure curtains went out too. Given all our modern cleaners our houses must be so much cleaner than in the old days. One thing that bothers me - does anyone wash or dry clean curtains? I must admit to not doing it. I vac, brush, wiggle and would have them cleaned if having a room decorated. What’s everyone else do?
My mum spring cleans LL, by the time it's finished as she takes several weeks to complete, she's then on to summer cleaning and so on. By Spring clean, it's a thorough deep clean and she has her curtains to the dry cleaners as they are all lined - I did say to her "I could buy a new set of curtains for the price of having them dry cleaned".
I think things have changed a lot because cleaning doesn't take so much time anymore and not so labour intensive. I imagine that carpets being beaten would have to wait for spring as they didn't used to have vacuums and certain items only washed in the good weather as they didn't have dryers.
I clean up everyday, whizz round with the cordless (even that's easier now) but will have a thorough clean when I know someones coming
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
I don't launder curtains LL, heavy curtains I have dry cleaned, but not every year. I am a bit OTT with having duvets and pillows cleaned and laundered, and only buy those that can be put into a washing machine. We have an extra large drum on the washing machine for that purpose, every now and then I have them laundered....we have a Dot Cotton style one here, they pick them up and drop them off for you, I guess that's due to having lots of guest houses in the area.
In France, at this time of year, you would see duvets, still in their dirty duvet covers, hung out over balconies, every where, a very unpleasant sight, gave me the eebie jeebies
Our place is in a right old state at the mo with builders in, they should be finished on Tuesday next week, I just cant' wait to get me Marigolds on.
I try to keep on top of housework constantly, having a blitz once in a while, dry clean my curtains and hoover them down when I am feeling in the mood, this time of year I like to wash pillows, cushions and sofa cushion covers that are removable, playroom teddies all get a wash too 😀
For anyone wanting encouragement to spring clean. I recorded a few episodes of Filthy House SOS. I am astounded that people let their homes get into such a state. Watch it, it's a real eye opener After watching this last night, I was compelled to go into the kitchen to clean my microwave! It took me less than five minutes.

I can relate to the rug beating sessions in the garden – it was almost like a ritual in my family too. As for curtains, I've often wondered the same thing. Personally, I've stuck to vacuuming and occasional brushing, but haven't ventured into washing or dry cleaning them.Funny enough, I had a mini curtain crisis when I moved to Lund. With all the hustle and bustle of settling in, cleaning curtains slipped my mind until I noticed a bit of dust build-up. That's when I decided to enlist some professional help for house cleaning Lund. They not only gave my curtains a thorough clean but also shared some handy tips for maintenance.
I've done some spring cleaning today. This includes cleaning my bathroom and kitchen. I've been washing the laundry and airing out my apartment. I also keep on top of the washing up and only keep in-date foods in my fridge and freezer. I also keep my kitchen cupboards fairly organised. BUT I am working on it. Oh: I also use anti-bacterial wipes in my home.

I did the same yesterday. I also sorted out all my paperwork.
