I bought a bread maker a month or so back. I used Which to choose it and so bought a Panasonic. So far I’ve only used ready mixed flour such as Wessex Mill, 6 seed bread flour. My only problem is slicing it. I bought a bamboo contraption off Amazon but I’m still making a hash of still getting a slice of unevenness . Any suggestions please?
Have you let it cool before trying to slice it LL? glad you are enjoying it though. I use packet mixes too but in the conventional oven.
My mum brought me a bread maker years ago (I didn't ask for one), problem I found was that we were a family of six and it made a small loaf of bread, took ages to make it and was gone in one go, so we gave it away.
Wrights do nice mixes, cheese and sun dried tomato is one I like

I love my bread maker, and use it for cakes and jam too! As for slicing, no great ideas just let it go totally cold first and a bloomin sharp knife. It's not often I can slice it thinly, but then again, a homemade loaf deserves to be thick sliced with a huge slather of butter ;-)
Ok ladies, I made a loaf yesterday and not touched it yet. Will report back on the slicing. I can understand what you said about the size of the loaf and how long it takes to make one Bellatrix. Mine has the ability to cook over night so you get up to fresh baked bread for breakfast - of course then it would still be warm and difficult to slice 🤣 I noticed about jam making VW. I must look into that. I’ve got a load of grapes that I want to turn into jam.
I think you are flogging a dead horse trying to get your fresh bread thinly sliced LL, just go for thick and hearty, just like VW recommends, I have got a Victorianox bread knife, expensive but worth it, I always use the quick setting on my bread maker, bakes a gorgeous loaf in just under two hours 🙂
I haven't made bread for ages. When I was a little girl our local 'bread' shop used to sell loaves straight from the oven. It was still hot. My nan would tuck the loaf under her arm to slice the warm bread. We always had a slice covered in 'best butter'. The slices definitely were not thin. Good luck with your slicing.

oooh best butter Trisha love the way butter melts on warm bread..
I agree with others LL, a nice thick slice.
my breadmaker used to make a nice loaf and was ready in the morning, the smell was wonderful. It would probably suit now as the kids have all but disappeared.

That’s a lovely reminder Trisha, my Nan would do exactly the same, slicing the bread towards her then taking the knife upwards, leaving the bottom crust whole, in a long thin strip, wonder what happened to the long piece of crust, daresay it was toasted eventually?
