Oh that is sad, poor chap missing his sister. When we had dogs, they didn't really notice the loss of another because they had come from rescues at different times, so didn't feel that tie that siblings would.
I know what your saying VW and I have been adamant, no more as I was hoping that we could travel more - ha that's a joke I know, but when you have more than one dog it isn't so easy to get someone to look after them and it certainly is less work with just one. Ruben doesn't moult to the degree Roxy did. However, it is only a month so may see me relenting. He has taken to a new toy one of the kids bought him a panda head on a plaited rope.
My friend has a female retriever, so I was hoping that we could meet up and go for a walk, but will have to wait for the weather to improve and some form of relaxation of rules as she lives too far away not to drive.
I had to post today about Ruben, as it is the first time that I have met up with my friend who also has a golden retriever.
Ruben was so funny as in odd. For the first field and a half, he kept stopping and looking at Bella (my friends retriever) as if seeing a ghost or seeing Roxy !! He would cower down, like a lion does stalking their prey, then he would just stay there watching her as she romped around. I would chivvy him along and then he would start again.. stopping and staring at her then sitting down to watch... By the third field he had calmed down and happily tootled along after her. She is only four where as Ruben will be 11 this year so a big difference, but Bella reminded me why I am not too keen to have more.
she absolutely loved the mud, the water and any ditch she could find thankfully Ruben has gone passed that now.
Aww SD, lovely post but brought a lump to my throat. Nice that Ruben had a chum to play with but his behavior did sound strange. Young dogs are hard work, I remember that. Maybe an older dog needing a good home from a shelter may be good if you ever wanted another SD.
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
