As I mentioned in another thread I am getting lot's of houseplants to add greenery to my townhouse. I can easily recognize herbs but as houseplants are new to me I need them to be named (I like to check for pet toxicity)
Had some great houseplants in Tesco at only £2.50 a pot, quite large too. Unfortunately although they were all different they all had the same labeling "Foliage in sleeve"
I looked all over the wrapper and inside the pot for a name, but nothing, so I asked an assistant if I was missing something. "no" she said "it's right there on the sleeve" and tried to pronounce the name ,after a couple of attempts she then settled on calling it "foliage" but in a French accent. I looked at her hoping the penny would drop so I didn't have to correct her but she said it again, this time making the word Foliage even more French and a little more flamboyant. I weighed up in my head whether it was worth correcting her by explaining that foliage is just that.. foliage, green stuff on plants, and as I have PMT at the moment and feeling more than a little mischievous decided it was worth it She said I should go ask someone else
I bought several anyway as I didn't want to miss out on such bargains and decided to look them up on googly anyway. Have identified the Dragon Tree (which I first thought was a Yucca) and the Areca palm (I think) but it's so difficult to see them in fine detail as so many are similar to others.
I could take some close ups if any of you are good at naming houseplants?
Meanwhile, can't for the life of me think why Tesco would not put the names on houseplants unless it was a cost cutting exercise, so as not to have to prints different plant sleeves.
