A week or so ago I read a post on a local selling site (on Facebook) about a gang of thieves targeting Transit vans in a town about 20 miles away and stealing goods from within. As OH's work van is a Transit we made sure it was reversed right up against our big fir tree and it is always locked, and thought no more about it. However this morning when he went to go to work, he trod on a trowel on the lawn behind the van and thought it was odd, so looked at back doors which were ajar and his power tools had gone. Along with the Sat Nav from the cab. No forced signs of entry just doors ajar. He of course panicked and I reassured him - I know he is always careful about locking it. So now he is at home waiting for the police and forensics to come, but we have heard now that others have been targeted and that they have a master key - so no forced entry, no alarm going off. Feel sick that people feel they can just take what others work hard for. I heard what I thought was a car door just after 9pm but didn't go to look as we always hear our neighbours coming and going, and as it was relatively early, thought no more about it.
Just goes to show that nothing is safe no matter how careful you are if someone else really wants it. Paranoid now as they do tend to re-visit days later when they assume the tools will have been replaced - if they do they are in for a shock - OH thinking of something 'fun' to put in back of van instead......
