Another post mentions John Lewis, but it would appear all the big British department stores are struggling to keep their heads above water. Commentators put this largely down to a change in how consumers shop .... I was just wondering whether you have noticeably changed your own shopping habits in the last few years.
I used to love a browse round the shops each weekend, but I just don't find that pleasurable these days (the hassle of paying to park, not wanting to part with my hard earned cash etc) and it's rare that I do actually go into a shop - when I do it tends to be a specific visit to a shopping centre or out of town store with a particular purchase in mind.
I have several brands of clothing which I like and have registered on their websites so they alert me in advance when they've got a sale, or offer discount codes, so I tend to have my eye on things that I want and then keep my fingers crossed they've still got my size available when there's a discount to be had. Sometimes I'll go to a department store to try on these clothes to see their fit/style with absolutely no intention of buying them until there's an offer.
The 'click & collect' service is brilliant for me, if I do see something I like on the JL website, I get it delivered to my local Waitrose store then if I don't like it, I can return it the same way. Same with M&S, I don't buy much there these days (apart from underwear) but I order & pay online then dash in to collect it the next day.
Do you do most of your shopping online? Are you brand loyal? Any tips for canny shopping?
