Love your beautiful post Shaliby xx My mum remembers the queens coronation, I think she was about 15 years old, so it's been significant for her too, she saw her in and saw her out today.
My husband and I also watched the days proceedings all day. The pipes and drums and the guards and the junior navy pulling the gun carriage was so momentous. The flowers, crown, orb and sceptre were just beautiful. We cried buckets when those items were taken off the top of the coffin at St. Giles in Windsor and the coffin lowered into the vault..she had gone and it felt awful
It was so nice to see so many heads of state attend, she really was so highly regarded around the world. Have you ever known someone to dedicate their life in the way that she did, such an inspiring woman.
If a list was drawn up of all those she had helped, countries too, all the things she had done in service and all the peoples lives she had touched, charities supported etc, we would be here for weeks writing it.
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
What a beautiful day, I watched all day, settled down in the capable hands of Hugh Edwards, Kirsty Young and David Dimbleby, it was perfect, the right amount of respect for Her Majesty but never sombre and how nice to include her pony Emma and Corgi’s, Sandy and Muick.
Bellatrix, I just feel as your dear mother does : "saw her in, saw her out", and when the crown, the sceptre and the orb were taken off the coffin ...And the final "God save the King", when Charles - oh no, didn't cry, but ...just winked to hold back his tears...the grief of a son burying his mother, the dignity of a newly appointed king ...Great! I must add, as I watched the BB9 coverage, how perfect the footage (is it right?) was from the beginning to the end!
A year on and the first anniversary of the Queen's death, the time has gone so quickly.
Looking at the crowds outside Buckingham Palace again, it almost feels like there hasn't been 12 months between then and now.
I think Charles has grown and matured a lot in these last 12 months, he is also 'reportedly' determined to slim down the monarchy to a team of 7 , at the moment there are 22 high ranking members in the line of succession, which does seem a bit superfluous. He may also strip all the grand children of their titles, apart from William's and Kate's.
Charles has found his groove and I think he's very amusing too, I like his kind and gentle ways and after the year he's had, I think he's done well to keep quiet and sane and keep a dignified silence when it comes to his loud mouth son!
So, you think he's going to shed the titles of all grandchildren? that would solve a problem on his doorstep tbh. And I know some of the other European Royal families have done the same recently with grandchildren, so it wouldn't look pointed if he followed suit.
A lot of people have been calling for the titles of the duke and duchess of Sussex to be removed (H and M) which sounds good, but if they lost those titles, do people realise that Me-gain would then become Princess as Harry is a Prince, but if he takes Prince and Princess titles away from all grandchildren (apart from W and K) that would solve a big problem
