Funny thing was that my ex really put himself out for that cat, but she never had the respect for him that she had for me. She sussed him a lot quicker than I did.
Inflammation of the brain can be caused by a virus, some cats that have been in low grade homes before being adopted can be susceptible to viruses throughout there lives as their immune systems never get tough in those first months of their lives.
However, Peridontal disease can also work it's way through the soft tissue of the cats mouth and with the brain being so close can cause inflammation.
Taking Beatrice on Friday to have her teeth cleaned and gums checked, she's only two but as she was rescued from a flat with 15 other cats her immune system isn't great, poor teeth and watery eyes.
I love cats (in case you hadn't noticed) but agree with 6herry, there are some individuals that completely steal your heart and you have a very special connection with, I have had 3 such cats in my life.

15 cats in a flat! No wonder she needed rescuing. My daughter rescued a cat in London which they found with a nasty cut on his back. He has always been nervous and doesn't let anyone pick him up which is tricky when he needs to go to the vet. He has now gone to live in the country with another member of the family as life there suits him better. I think it was a good move for him but also because OD now has the baby.
I was told by cats protection at the time LL, that they took 15 cats and 4 dogs away from the flat, and they still left some there. A more manageable amount for the previous owner. I was told the living conditions were dire and that's why the cats had multiple infections. No access to outside, they also had children there too
How is your daughters cat finding life in the country, is he happier?

Hugo is gorgeous!! Well done on giving him a fab home, he has fallen on his paws I think!! Black greyhounds are always harder to re-home too. I think people gravitate towards prettier colours - personally I love a glossy black coat on cats and dogs..... Maybe I'm biased??
I have never had a choice of kittens. It has always been a take it or leave it choice. I took all six. Three were good, one was excellent, and two were okish.
I haven't had a black cat in years Trisha, up until we got our white deaf cat few years back, like 6herry, I always seemed to have what was offered.
About 20 years ago, I went to cat rescue place. When I got there, I quickly realised I wasn't "allowed" to choose a cat. The lady who ran it said to sit on the step and the cat will choose you She was quite an overbearing woman, so I did as I was told. Toby choose me apparently but there was a snag.. he had a sister (who hadn't chosen me ) and the woman said they had to go together. I have no idea if this really was his sister or the woman was trying to get me to re-home 2 cats. It worked, I took them both. Although I was slightly annoyed with myself at the time, as I had some explaining to do when I got home, I must say that Toby was one of my very special cats, he was so loving and close and we did indeed have a very special connection, so maybe the woman was right all along. His sister was a sweet little thing too who loved my OD.
Anyway, My cat Beatrice had 3 teeth removed today and x rays to see if anything else was going on, nothing else showed up, so good. She has however been high as a kite since we got home, hasn't sat still, been overly affectionate , won't leave me alone for a moment and if she could have kissed and hugged me when I picked her up I think she would have Vet says she should calm down tomorrow. Opiods I think she said is in the anaeshetic.

Bella, hope your cat is recovering well. From what to say about her background, with so many mates in an unhealthy place, she might suffer from a calicivirus gingitivis ( like one of our cats who had several teeth removed, and still needs medical care now and then) Maybe it would help if you gave her some supplement to inforce her immune system. Thank you Shaliby good idea. The link didn't work but I'm sure I can find it XX She seems fine today, back to her old self, she was like a cat on speed yesterday
