An older cousin of mine was an only child and had the most lovely toys. I loved going to play there and as she was older she no longer played with these things.
The thing I remember most and really hankered after (Shaliby, that means longed for ) was a play set called Britains Floral Garden - you could build and create garden sets, set it with flowers and vegetables , paving walls and fences etc, then take it apart and create a different garden. I really wanted one of these but alas it never came to me
Good news though! I managed to find one on Ebay and at last will be able to play til my hearts content as soon as it arrives
I can’t remember your Floral Garden B, but it certainly looks like a toy that I would have enjoyed, and how amazing it’s still available today, what a treat for you.
I loved colouring, playing with my dolls and roller skating, I wasn’t allowed to have a bike, I don’t know why but I really wanted one, my friend had a gorgeous dolls house, which she never played with, I was so envious, she still has it.
We lived in the country and to get away from all the craziness at home I'd climb up the big hill in front to escape, live in my own little fantasy world .I felt safe & happy. Have to go back there someday.
I have never seen one either. Looks really lovely B, you'll probably get more enjoyment out of it now.
I remember I wanted a Chopper bike but they were too difficult to get hold of. I had a gold coloured bike and thought I was the bees knees. We used to have great fun playing around the village chasing each other. Such freedom compared to today.

They are the original 60s/70s ones that are available, so they can command a stiff price - but you can buy the flowers and f/beds etc all separately and build your scene Had my dolls and roller skates too Jazzy, great fun. Sorry you never got that dolls house My mum made me one when I was little - again the same cousin had an amazing one! I love miniatures and we had a dolls house company several years back, we'd build and decorate for people, totally indulgent and I have a lovely one now
Moi - I like the sound of your happy place, I guess we don't really need "things" always, just an escape place to call our own when needed
The cool kids had a chopper SD! but you had a GOLD one that made you just as cool
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
I had an older friend just up the road, she had an adult bike, and I would ride on it, but I couldn’t reach the pedals if I sat on the seat, so I would stand up and pedal, looking back that was a bit daredevil for me.
A dolls house company B, how amazing, there is such a lot of interest in them now, new interests were sparked during lockdown and has kept going, I follow an instagram with maileg mice, the accessories are just so cute, AGA cookers, all sorts of food and drink, honestly, cute is an understatement.
Never heard of them B. Is it because I’m a lot older than you perhaps? Looks fun and your love of gardening has obviously carried on through your life.
One of my favourite toys was a twin tub washer and drier! That activity seems to have followed me through life too 😂
Yes, that exactly it Bellatrix! I just googled for more photos as I remember a little handle that turned on the side. I found one on eBay for sale at £68.60. Needless to say, I’m not tempted at that price! 😂
I always wanted a chopper bike as well. I thought they looked so cool and fun to ride.
I hated dolls and my favourite toy was my electric train set. I was a bit of a tomboy. I’m not sure what that would mean today. I mean I hated wearing dresses but I wanted my hair long. The thought scares me a bit.
I hated dolls, but had teddies. A family friend made me a beautiful model of a farmyard, complete with house, outbuildings with sliding gates, etc that I adored and still have now. I used to save up my birthday and xmas money to buy plastic farm animals and little tractors.
From the age of about 3, I had a great big teddy (not much smaller than me) called Edwina. I found a photo the other day of me pushing her round the garden in one of those trolley things that used to have play bricks in them, I still have her ... she's relaxing in the top of a cupboard, not sure which one of us has aged most in the last 58 years!
As a child I loved Sindy Dolls and My Little Pony. They were my favourites. My Nan also had a dollhouse and I loved buying mini furniture for it: that dollhouse brings back happy memories.
It's shocking how fast time goes isn't it. I'm obviously on my second childhood though with my dollshouse and miniatures I never had a Sindy, I wanted one but for some reason I was bought a "Tressie", same scale as a Sindy but her hair would grow, had a winder in her back to take it up or down I remember a friend who had Sindy, her bedroom was full of everything possible they had made for that doll, a mansion house, car etc etc
