Christmas, home or away?

Home for us, we were planning to stay in an Edinburgh Hotel with daughter throughout the festivities, no cooking for anyone , however now that it is getting closer we have decided to stay home. It still feels a little bit scary to be mingling on that level from the dreaded Covid perspective.

Have you got your heating on yet?

Yes we have, not until 1st Nov though, although we have been using the electric blanket at night time.

What is/would your Karaoke song be?

Do you wear eyeshadow, what colour?

Yes, I tend to go for a neutral shade though, very pale pink or blush, maybe a bit of taupe.

What kitchen gadget can't you do without?

The slow cooker and my potato/vegetable peeler.

What would you buy yourself for Christmas?

For me it would have to be the Rega Planner 3/Elys 2 turntable deck and speakers, to make all my old vinyls sound like new.

Cup and saucer or mug for your favourite hot drink?

Well, here's the thing....if I am having Earl Grey or a Twinings Ceylon tea, it has to be a china cup and saucer. Yorkshire tea from a mug, but it does have to be a china mug, and coffee from a nice pottery mug...not at all fussy is it?

What was the last extravagant item you bought for yourself?

I have put this one in as I have just splashed out on a pair of Moda in Pelle ankle boots, and I still feel a bit guilty, ( only a bit though!) Things is, they really are very comfortable as well as very stylish.

Christmas tree, real, fake or both?

A great big real one for the main lounge, and an artificial for the dining room. Last year we left it until quite late to get the real one, and we got the most prettiest tree from the garden centre for a fiver on the 23rd Dec, it was massive too.

Yes, had it on for a few weeks but still have to sit underneath a blanket/throw to watch the TV at night. It’s right chilly in our house- no double glazing 😱

A mix of pinky/ beige, brown and blue. There’s a term for it which I’ve completely forgotten. Will come back if I remember.

The kettle! I’m a simple girl.

A new car!

A nice mug. Hate those thick things so it has to be thin. I like those mugs that say -I’d rather be …..

um, um, …….. can’t think of anything

We have a fake one. Relatively new, 5 years old. I am allergic to Christmas trees and finally was able to persuade OH to buy one in the January sales.

It must be quite a dangerous time for you at Christmas CC being allergic to Christmas tress, particularly if you visit other people, do you carry an epi pen or Piriteze with you when you go out over Christmas?

Sounds like your home will be full again for Christmas, does your OH cook the Christmas dinner?

Our windows are not double glazed either being Grade II listed like yours, but they are sealed on the front of the house, which is very effective re keeping the draughts out.

,yes we do sometimes on the front windows, but we leave a window on each floor level slightly open, ( we have 4 floor levels) and that seems to manage the condensation, although the windows that are affected do get wiped every day just to be sure.

We get a lot of sun on the back of the house, and the house seems to keep an ambient temperature in spite of some of the windows being open most of the time, we are mid terrace and I think that held with the temperature too.

, love reading your take on stuff. How wonderful not to have to even think of winter heating etc, I guess that also means you have a perpetual summer wardrobe.

I have very fond memories of the winters we spent on Menorca, french doors constantly open with voiles fluttering in the breeze and a frontline view of the Med, a stash of logs on the fireplaces for decoration purposes only, Christmas day bbq's on the terrace, frolicking in the heated pool, ...I really do miss that lifestyle, particularly this time of year. It is amazing though how we took it all for granted whilst we were there.

A bit of Dusty Springfield is an absolute must at a karaoke session , the lady is iconic, same applies to Tina Turner.

There was always a lovely unusual smell in Spanish stores, a smell i have only come across there.
	There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.

Blimey BellaT, if only I had known, you may have been there at the same time...we could have done our Christmas frolicking together

We still have chums over there, and will be doing the christmas bubbles by Zoom again this year, one of those chums is Debs, a Yorkshire lass too, and she often requests that I send her photos and videos of our travels here, as she lived in Beverley. It is really strange as she envies us the Yorkshire winters, and the snow! Maybe we should swap houses from Nov to Feb....I would deffo be up for that.

We are at home with just our kids and first year of grandson. So it's all about him.

Yes we do, but it is the log burner and open fire. Central heating is useless, so we don't bother to use it.

Only on night outs (rare) smokey purples

A cheap bread knife and hand blender.

Same here. I have a china breakfast cup for my Nescafe coffee, then I have a china mug for tea/hot water

I bought am emerald and diamond ring from my old jeweller before he retired never told my OH !

Always a real one, although 6' is as tall as we can go. I do loads of garlands some faux, some have a bit of real and fake greenery in them. Need to start soon!

I have just watched the you tube video of Ava Gardner singing 'Can't help loving dat man of mine', very sultry

, wasn't she beautiful, I love the frock.

I do a quite few garlands too, and mix the real with the fake, I have problems with calling the round 'garlands' that are put on front doors 'wreaths' , wreaths to me are something to be associated with a more sombre occasion.

A very busy, but also very enjoyable festive season for you SD with your darling grandson, he will be much more aware as to what is going on this year, so exciting for you.
