"Too expensive ?" Anything I could afford, but which is not "essential", and I know I can use the money to help out some relatives momentarily in difficulty . And at any time, all those clothes with a "brand", made in China, that you pay 3 times their value and won't withstand a wash.
I agree with this. Made in China is what I avoid when shopping for clothes: they certainly do not withstand one wash. Plus, the conditions of factories in foreign countries is atrocious. I simply won't buy cheap clothing. Unless it comes from a charity shop, which you can trust more.
But, anyway, cheap manufacturing is best avoided when out shopping.
Agree, better financially to buy good quality that lasts. I've found some unique items in charity shops too
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.

Plus, quality that is timeless is better than several items that last five minutes.
I think everyone has cut their cloth accordingly and reduced their average spend per person. We noticed that more of us focused on just being together rather than what where we giving.
I have completely changed my shopping habits since my post in September. I no longer do a weekly shop at Tesco, I have switched to Lidl - something I never thought I'd do, but I love it. The store is much smaller so it's easier to find things, the quality of their food has been surprising good - especially their Christmas food (some very tasty Amaretto mince pies come to mind ... and hips!).
I am saving so much money on my weekly shop but not compromising on quality. Sometimes they don't have the particular item I want, which is a nuisance, but the quality of their fruit & veg is really good and so is the meat/poultry.
My kids think it's hilarious because I was always a bit snobby about value supermarkets, but now I'm hooked!

I nearly fainted reading your comment Jax about lovely Lidl Popping there tomorrow to get my goodies and there is always something unusual that catches my eye. What I do like about Lidl is that they do also sell the odd branded item, where as Aldi so I am told is purely their own brand. The Deluxe range in Lidl is superb and Gellati range of ice creams are by far better than branded ices. There are a few bits that I cannot get there, your right Jax but overall, it is a cheaper shop by far.
Love Lidl I like it for many reasons, Its smaller, doesn't feel like a warehouse, like Tesco does and doesn't take 30 minutes to park your car and get to the door. I always get the hamper stuff from here, they have really different things and agree the deluxe range in so good. I bought my mum a bottle of pear branby.. there was a whole pear floating inside it!
Can I recommend The salmon wellington two styles they do, salmon with prawn and white wine and one with salmon cheese and dill. Serves 4.

I bought one of those B, didn't read the packaging properly so missed the fact that it was for 4 people, couldn't bear to waste it and it was too hard to try to cut it up frozen so OH and I had half each - delicious if greedy!
