We have had a mouse in the house so I’m going through all my kitchen cupboards and food in the pantry to give everything a clean and a check. I have thrown all sorts out! Coffee beans that belonged to my son and were 6 years old! Chocolate powder that was 5 years old, etc, etc! I’ve just emptied a bag of chopped hazelnuts into the bird feeder. Nuts definitely need eating by the BB date. Do you think the birds will turn their beaks up at them? Anyone else feeding the birds and if so what types of birds come?
I have always fed the birds and have always bought a large sack of mixed wildbird seeds. We have had greenfinch, robins also sparrows or dunnocks. They won't touch the seed from my last bag. Even the pigeons are turning their noses up. Our daughter had a bag the same time as us, their birds can't get enough. I can only assume that one of our neighbours has gourmet treats. LL, I hope that you have managed to get rid of your mouse. You have made mithink, I must check our cupboards for our of date packets. Where does the time go?

We live adjacent to a wood, we have sparrows, robins, magpies, thrush, wrens [my favourite] all sorts of tits, wagtails, crows, rooks, woodpeckers, tree creepers, field fares, and more I have forgotten.
Squirrels too, and we once saw a snake in the woods.
Trisha - they do get fussy if they are spoiled elsewhere! Our visitors have not toushed the peanuts, but enjoy the mixed seed and mealworms! I make my own fatballs from leftovers which they love. We have huge trees at bottom of the garden and a brook which attracts allsorts. Mainly blackbirds, pigeons, blue tits, great tits, long tailed tits(my favourites), robins, squirrels and the odd crow lol.We do also have resident tawny owls that I listen to in my bed at night. The squirrels are very busy making their dreys at the moment and squabbling.
Our feeders are popular with goldfinches and blue tits, we also get visits from long tailed tits, I put a slice of seeded bread on our outside table, which is right outside the kitchen door, so that I can see the robin and sparrows feeding, we also see blackbirds, dunnocks and wrens.
Love to hear the tawny owl too VW, and a regular visitor is the little owl.
Thanks for this 6herry, yes I totally agree, no bread when chicks are being fed, I hasten to add that the bread I put out for the adults this time of year is 7seeds and literally bursting with them.
We had snow today and surprise, surprise the birds flocked to our bird feeder! We’ve had robins, long tailed tits, blackbirds, and a few others. We also had some strange footprints in the snow. Still not worked out what animal created them.
