2022 – Mikhail Gorbachev, the 8th and final leader of the Soviet Union. (b. 1931) - Am I right in remembering that things were better for the Soviet people under him?
Princess Diana and Dodi, oh my god, I remember this event as if it was yesterday, was truly horrible to wake up to.
There is a lot to be said for being part of a group, and the support and friendship that is gained from this.
Princes Diana ...........Tragic story. I have the idea that she did not know what she was getting into when she married Charles. Very young and maybe did not really understand what was expected of being a princess.
Of course Charles's ongoing affair with that woman who looked as old as his mother that doomed things from the start

Muhammed Ali ............a fellow Louisvillian ! Have driven by his parents's house many times.
The local hero who everyone wants to identify with .Growing up in a mostly black neighborhood found about 50% of all Louisville's black people say they knew him / were related to him / and even with a few who claimed they taught him everything he knew about boxing/how their aunt mother cousin etc almost married him Much less with white people but still there. A friend was married to a police who told everyone how his father had been a police car partner of the white cop who early on discovered Ali's talents and got his career going.
Despite being religious he was a well known horn dog .
When Ali died the town was flooded with celebrities from all over the world. The hotel where I worked had 100 % occupancy that week-end .Things were very busy around the clock .I walked in the hotel bar finding Angelina Jolie ( she adds new meaning to the word anorexia) & her entourage there then when leaving passing Sylvester Stallone & his people coming in.
Precious account, Moi ! I can imagine how all these people would enjoy saying "they" or "their brother in law's cousin " or "their neighbor's grandmother's carer's son" was close friend of your local hero !!! And learnt a new word "horn dog" ! Well, he was quite a handsome man when he was young. But I remember how moving it was to see him, so ill and disabled, and yet so proud, when he lit the Olympic Cauldron in Atlanta in 1996. Sure, he is a legend !
